CAN'T YOU FEEL THE

IS KNIFE THE SONG OF THE DECADE?

i don't have much time now, but i was just listening to this song and i felt like i had to write about it. the thing about knife is that it isn't my favorite grizzly bear song (i'm partial to ON A NECK, ON A SPIT). when i really think about it though, the song that most defines grizzly bear's sound (and grizzly bear is definitely one of the best bands of the decade) is undeniably, definitely, without a doubt, knife, because you can feel the knife. the slow chords and the layered vocals - sexy, scary, distant, close, everything at once. for a song so simple ("you think it's alright. can't you feel the knife?") it packs a punch i can't even describe.

IS VECK THE ALBUM OF THE DECADE?
almost certainly not, it's too soon. but i think it is the album of the year, which puts it in my top ten by default, and it is so close to perfect.

PLANS

i saw grizzly bear for the third time yesterday. you need to buy grizzly bear tickets right now. it is imperative that you see them, even if you don't really like them.

i love everything about this video. if you have time watch their whole series for la blogotheque, and department of eagles' too.

HOUSSE DE RACKET

by recommendation of my friend theo, some hot french electronic pop:

HOUSSE DE RACKET.
i have "oh yeah" on right now. and it's pretty damn good. of the lyrics i can understand / translate for you: "oh yeah i will change. you know i will change."

in other news my review of grizzly bear is on PMA. luis took my words and added some sexy photos i did not take to create this hot post here. read that!

DON'T MAKE ME BEG

if you do me one thing, make it this thing.

I LIVE WITH YOU --- GRIZZLY BEAR.
expect an actual review of the show i went to friday when i am able to put my feelings into words. i was watching chris bear (who plays the drums) at the end of this song --- he is usually pretty calm and methodical when he plays, and at the end of this song he just WENT INSANE. it was incredible. this used to be one of my least favorite on veckatimest but i have been listening to it all day.

HEY GUYS,

remember when i saw grizzly bear with the philharmonic orchestra and it was the most awesome thing ever? well, now you can experience it semi-firsthand...

you can watch some other stuff as well in the related section if you click on the video. this is an older song, colorado, from yellow house, but there's plenty of veckatimest stuff as well (including the first times ever they played dory, ready able, and foreground).

i have probably said this before but veck = album of the year at this point.

IF IT DOESN'T MEAN A THING

you might be wondering, "so, just how fucking awesome IS grizzly bear's new album if genevieve didn't blog for two weeks because she was so busy listening to it?" well now you can answer that question because you can listen to cheerleader (aka. one of nine jams of all jams on the album) legitimately on the fader:
CHEERLEADER --- GRIZZLY BEAR.
i posted a live version of this a little while ago but here's the album version. i can't stress enough how ridiculously incredible this song is.

continuing in the vein of this morning, here's WHITE SKY ON TV --- VAMPIRE WEEKEND. it is a good day to be irrationally obsessed with this band. this version is a whole lot slower than the one they play live, but it sounds pretty with strings...

and here's something really awesome i found...
CECELIA (SIMON AND GARFUNKEL COVER) --- LOCAL NATIVES. one of my favorite s+g songs, a great cover with some great percussion!

I AM SO SORRY

WHY I HAVE NOT BEEN BLOGGING:
i have been too busy listening to veckatimest, which might be 806x better than any album released in the last year.

this coincidental picture happens to sum up my awe and respect of it:

here's a little gem from their last legitimate release:
LITTLE BROTHER (ELECTRIC) --- GRIZZLY BEAR.

WHAT NOW WHAT NOW WHAT NOW WHAT NOW WHAT

SO GUYS, ON SATURDAY I SAW GRIZZLY BEAR WITH A PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA!

stolen from stereogum, sorry / thanks.

i fail as a blogger with no effective words to describe this show. listen to this recording of colorado while i try to make sense of my feelings.
COLORADO (LIVE AT BAM) --- GRIZZLY BEAR

you will be pleased to know that all of the new stuff sounded absolutely, incomparably, devastatingly amazing. they played three new songs for the first time: ready able, dory, and foreground, and they played while you wait for the others and two weeks (some tears in my eyes during this one).

i will write a real review as soon as i can and put it up here.

A BIT BEHIND THE CURVE ON THIS

GRIZZLY BEAR'S NEW ALBUM IS GOING TO BE MASSIVE AND IT IS NAMED AFTER AN ISLAND IN MASSACHUSETTS. this is really important to me because we are talking about THE FATHERLAND here, for me.

in celebration of that here's a song which is called CHEERLEADER although it will save as '2 Hud.' but it is really called cheerleader. it is massively awesome.

CHEERLEADER --- GRIZZLY BEAR. if i ever meet ed droste i will tell him "ed, your voice sounds like realizing you're alive."

more exciting news copy and pasted from twitter: "We are going to play new songs at BAM yes, and try to play older songs we've never played before, we are even toying with a HOP track"
so psyched for this show

CAN'T U FEEL DA KNIFE

i had to spell it like that on the top, i'm so sorry. i had to do it.

everyone wants to cover grizzly bear's KNIFE. everyone. i was confused as to why it was so widely adored. THEN I LISTENED TO IT. i must say 'holy shit, i am an idiot.' seriously, it is awesome.
if you have not heard it, you should get on that:
KNIFE --- GRIZZLY BEAR
it's so haunting. jesus.
here are some covers:
BY CSS
BY BORN RUFFIANS
BY ZACH CONDON WHILE INTOXICATED

and here it is by the band themselves for LA BLOGOTHEQUE.

for good measure, seriously one of the most awesome things i have ever heard:
TOO LITTLE TOO LATE (JOJO COVER) --- DAN ROSSEN OF GRIZZLY BEAR.
best part: this sounds like a legitimate song, except when dan says "i don't stand a chance with a player like you." the rest of it could have legitimately been released by grizzly bear on an actual record. this makes the fact that it is a jojo cover even more incredible.

i would like to see grizzly bear in an opera house in brooklyn with the brooklyn philharmonic orchestra this february. how incredible would that be.
