OLD SCHOOL DPZ

lately i've been really into dirty projectors circa getty address (2005) and the new attitude ep (2006). both of these recordings precede the lineup pictured above and are totally ridiculous and awesome. to give you a hint: for getty address dave longstreth gathered together a touring lineup of about fifteen people which included TWO FLUTES, TWO SAXOPHONES, and TWO CELLOS.

anyway, here is a DIFFERENT LINEUP ENTIRELY doing two TOTAL JAMS for a college radio station in 2006. i wish more than anything that they had two sheep asleep up, but unfortunately they do not :( these recordings are amazing, though! check them out.

i might just be jealous because a friend of mine went to this show and ran into dave sitek and 3/4 of vampire weekend in the bathroom. life goes on though and this recording is pretty awesome.

i've been listening to an NPR sxsw recording of it all weekend, and i just finally got the recorded version! IT. IS. AWESOME. amber coffman sounds like an mtv-style pop diva wailing arpeggios over talking heads-ish guitar. listen to it RIGHT NOW.

i think that "bitte orca" is a good album title. local slang is unfortunate. whenever i think about it i think "bittie orca."

KNOTTY PINE

i was just listening to the only dirty projectors song i like, which is called BECAUSE YOUR LIGHT IS TURNING GREEN, when i stumbled across this huge slice of awesome.

KNOTTY PINE --- DIRTY PROJECTORS

for charity compilation 'dark was the night' whose tracklist looks DEVASTATINGLY PROMISING: yeasayer, spoon, arcade fire, grizzly bear, sufjan, etc etc etc. they're releasing one song a day until the entire album is released on february 17th, check up on THE MYSPACE as often as you can!

to make matters even better, david byrne wrote the lyrics for this tune and i suppose dave longstreth put the rest of it together. great vocals, cute BUT NOT TOO CUTE guitar / piano riff --- i feel like you can dance to this, i feel like it's feasible. WELL PLAYED.
