i want to tell you as your friend that it is not too late to fall in love with late of the pier, and it is a beautiful season to fall in love with them.

HEARTBEAT --- LATE OF THE PIER

i was just watching grease on bravo (uh yeah) and all of a sudden i started having this craving that i could not put my finger on. and then in my head i started singing the opening to the bears are coming ("SNAP AWAY SHE SAID AS SHE DANCED TOWARD THE MOONLIGHT") and i was thinking "i have to listen to late of the pier. i have to go listen to late of the pier right now." and i wanted to wait until after that scene where frenchy tries to pierce sandy's ears and she throws up but i couldn't wait anymore. so i went to the computer and tried to find an mp3 and it took me about five minutes to find it... and then i finally found it and it was so wonderful.

i held tickets to see these boys in my hands, and i did not go, and whenever i hear them now my heart breaks. when i went to see miike snow i walked into mhow with my friend and broken was playing over the loudspeaker, and i felt like crying a little.

IT'S ALL EVOLUTION'S FAULT NOW

this time last year i had a favorite album of the year, which stayed my favorite album of the year. i don't know what will happen with this one, but i love it and i love it a lot. out of the 13 songs on it, i think 9 are gold.


this is called fantasy black channel and the band is called late of the pier. i just blogged about them two posts ago. lately all i want to listen to is the first six songs on this. it is like being punched six times.

RANDOM FIRL --- LATE OF THE PIER. what i think is there's nothing like positivity. you want to take a nice deep breath and say "look, see, i guess this doesn't suck as much as it could, and life is beautiful."

are you still like "genny, are you serious?" well. YOUTUBE MIGHT CONVINCE YOU of something, not sure what, maybe that they deserve a little of your time and attention based on the evident ridiculousness they so effortlessly bring across...

THE BEARS ARE COMING

a long time ago, pretty much every band i liked was from ACROSS DA POND or sounded like they were. nowadays it seems like the only english bands i like are the sexy, dancy ones, with synth-laden music, who dance ridiculously when they perform live. (see: FRIENDLY FIRES). while the english (by which i mean NME) seem to be excited about the US music scene, it has been hard for me lately to get excited about the english music scene.



THEN MAGIC HAPPENED:
i decided to listen to LATE OF THE PIER, the four most frequently, incongruously shirtless guys in britain, the other night, and i started feeling better about this whole thing, because i really like them. they are easy to classify with MGMT because of the weird trippy aesthetic, but i feel like they're more creative than MGMT. all of their songs sound like they were created out of 2839043 ideas the band had then decided to combine into one song.

THE BEARS ARE COMING.
let me tell you how i feel about this song: the first 42 seconds are probably the best first 42 seconds i have heard in a long, long time. however, like i said above, this song is about eight million different songs so after those 42 seconds it dissolves into okay.

TRY not to love that synth line. TRY NOT TO LOVE IT. apparently i have played this 30 times in 2 days.


they are coming to the US in the spring to do some shows. after having youtubed the shit out of them, i have concluded that it would probably be in everyone in the world's best interests to go. they are utterly ridiculous and awesome.
